Catalog description
A survey of the basic principles required for understanding inorganic chemistry including molecular structure, extended structure, periodic trends, bonding models (including molecular orbital theory), symmetry, group theory, and acid-base chemistry. These principles will be applied mainly to the chemistry of selected main-group elements and their compounds. Selected topics in solid-state chemistry, as well as an introduction to transition metal chemistry, will also be provided. Prerequisites: CHEM 152
