Catalog description
Students are given a firm foundation in the fundamentals of structure and reactivity of organic compounds. Emphasis is placed on the basic mechanistic principles of the reactions and the strategies used to synthesize organic compounds. The use of NMR and IR spectroscopy to identify organic compounds is also emphasized. Lecture, three hours. Students must register concurrently for CHEM 212L. Prerequisite: a C or better in CHEM 211 and CHEM 211L.
