Polymers in Healthcare

Catalog description

This course covers the theory and applications of polymeric biomaterials in the healthcare field. Principles on the molecular level will be highlighted with emphasis on structure-function relationships. Topics include design and fabrication of polymers that elicit an appropriate tissue response for applications in medical devices. Biodegradation mechanisms will be discussed as they pertain to short-term implants as well as to sustainability considerations. This course will cover case studies and recent advances in these topics.
