Catalog description
An introduction to the basic principles of animal virus biology and the human immune system. This first half of the course will cover viral genomes and genetics, virus structure, and the infectious cycle including attachment and entry, virus replication and gene expression, intracellular trafficking, and virus assembly. The second half of the course will cover viral epidemiology, cell autonomous immunity, innate immunity, adaptive immunity, antibody structure and function, immunological techniques, viral pathogenesis of disease, vaccines, and antivirals. Prerequisite: C or better in BIOL 212. Lecture. Offered spring only.
