Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides income tax preparation assistance for low-to-middle income taxpayers. Students enrolled in this course will serve as volunteers for this excellent program. In addition to helping the community, this course greatly helps students by developing their tax preparation skills, computer skills, and people skills because volunteers work directly with the public. In January, students must attend a minimum of ten hours of VITA training and complete certifications that enable participation in the program. Through the semester, students must attend weekly one hour class sessions and serve as a volunteer (roughly 3 to 4 hours per week). There are several day/time options available for training and for serving as a volunteer. Subject to availability, students can select the day/time/location that best suits their circumstances. Students interested in enrolling in this course must contact Dr. Yurko ([email protected]) to discuss the requirements of this valuable experience and for permission to enroll.
