Catalog description

This course explores the mutually-illuminating relationship between theology and visual art. It offers an introduction to the key components of interpreting visual art and seeks to equip students to engage the medium responsibly while articulating a work's distinctive potential (or peril) for theological and ethical formation. Though readings and course organization will vary from year to year, the course will explore a range of examples or case-studies in the context of key readings from theologians and theorists who have shaped how we think of the intersection of theology and visual art today.
