Catalog description

Walk in the footsteps of impactful writers! Study the artful effects and expansive purposes achieved through choices in style. Explore a wide array of writing genres—from science writing to comedy—and specialize your inquiries to texts in your major through short weekly entries in a style journal and a midterm journal reflection. Uncover how style reflects and shapes cultural contexts and has evolved through history, up to and including GAI's current influence on language and writing processes. Investigations will culminate in an analytical paper on a 'mentor text,' a style-forward revision of a piece of your writing from outside the course, and final reflection on a personal approach to style. Develop a critical eye for effective techniques to transform your writing.
