Catalog description

Dance and Music are quintessential to Hindi Cinema, which is often nicknamed as 'Bollywood.' Over the last century, Hindi cinema has garnered what has emerged as a unique form of dance genre that subsumes, reconstitutes and remixes the traditional, modern, contemporary and global movement vocabularies as an aid to highlight and extend the narrative plot of the film. In the past few decades, Hindi cinema has incorporated Indian diasporic cultural identities alluring an unprecedented global reception. This course will focus on 'Bollywood' dance and music genres and ways in which they promote the allure for a revitalized national identity, a global cultural presence, and network associations with the Indian diaspora as well.
