Introduction to Laparoscopic Surgery

Catalog description

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS - laparoscopic or robotic-assisted) is a growing field that benefits from early and longitudinally sustained practice. Students applying into General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Urology take the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) or Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery (EMIGS) exam during intern year, consisting of both skills and core knowledge components. This one-semester hybrid course consists of in-person technical skills instruction in the Surgical Education and Activities Lab (SEAL), independent practice, and asynchronous learning on official FLS and EMIGS content. At completion of the course, students will be equipped to pass FLS or EMIGS in residency. Credit: 1 Enrollment Max: 24 Permission of Instructor required.
