Explores the cross-cultural and historical practice of ritual and magic in both religious and secular contexts. Introduction to and practice of ethnographic methods and writing, with a fieldwork project on ritual behavior and/or magical thinking in the contemporary world. Readings include anthropological theory and ethnography from the United States, the Caribbean, Africa, and South America.
