Catalog description

Explores the individual, social, and medico-scientific dimensions of drugs. Takes a globally comparative approach to questions including: How is everyday life saturated with chemical substances, both desired and unwanted? How can we connect macro-level phenomena like global pharmaceutical politics and drug wars to people's everyday lives? What substances count as therapy, and what count as poison? Student-led discussions play a central role in the seminar; assessments include short writing assignments and a final creative project.
