Clinical Radiation Oncology

Catalog description

Radiation oncology plays a crucial role in the management of patients with cancer. The student begins this course with lectures, individual tutorials, and audio-visual education programs to review the crucial elements of radiation biology, medical radiation physics, and dosimetry. This is followed by clinical instruction based in the ambulatory clinics of the Radiation Oncology Department as well as participation in brachytherapy procedures, care of inpatients, and new patient consultations. This course provides an introduction to the role of radiation therapy in the treatment of malignant disease. Students applying for this rotation MUST complete all VA paperwork no later than one month prior to the first day of classes.
