This course provides a comprehensive overview of data visualization with a specific focus on its application in the public policy domain. Students will learn the fundamental principles of effective data communication, from initial data analysis to the creation of compelling, audience-appropriate visualizations. The course emphasizes both the theoretical and practical aspects of the field, exploring how to analyze data for policymaking while developing hands-on skills with essential software tools such as Excel, Tableau, and R. We will also critically examine the ethical considerations, potential for bias and misuse, and crucial aspects of accessibility that are inherent in all forms of data.
