Writing for Public Policy

Catalog description

A writing course designed to teach the basic forms of writing most likely to be used by public policy students when they enter the work world. Students will write op-eds, policy briefs, executive summaries, speeches, memos, committee reports, and similar documents. Stresses how to write clearly, succinctly and with conviction. Professor creates individual personalized assignments based on student's interests, career goals, and experiences. Three short (two to five pages) and one long (twenty pages) papers with editing and rewriting opportunities. Opportunities to work on personal strengths and weaknesses in composition and to design a project relevant to work or internship.
