Practice and the Health System IV

Catalog description

The Practice & the Health System courses (PHS 1, 2, 3, 4) provide in-depth exploration of PA Practice within the U.S. health care system, with a focus on PA professional competency development. An interprofessional team of faculty provides instruction and leads conversations on various aspects of PA professional behaviors and practice, including topics such as: the history of the PA profession, healthcare systems and health policy, population health, team-based care, evidence-based practice and quality improvement. PHS4 is the culmination of the course sequence and spans the duration of the clinical year. The focus includes topics such as: transition to professional practice, medical billing and coding, advanced clinical medicine, obtaining licensure and certification, applied professional ethics, team skills and communication, quality improvement and evidence-based practice, leadership development, and prescription writing/medication errors. The program's final summative evaluation is part of this course, which also serves as preparation for the PA National Certifying Examination (PANCE). Variable credits: 1-2
