Sexual & Gender Medicine II

Catalog description

The Sexual & Gender Minority Health courses (SGMH I, II, III) are part of the Sexual & Gender Minority Concentration Track and provide students with focused opportunities to build knowledge and skills pertaining to the unique healthcare needs of patients who are sexual and/or gender minorities. This course includes lectures and discussions led by faculty with expertise in sexual and gender minority health, online modules and discussions, student self-directed learning on topic areas of interest, student peer-to-peer teaching with faculty oversight, student service learning, and learning through research/scholarship/quality improvement activities. Topics covered include: health disparities experienced by people who are sexual or gender minorities, primary and preventative care for sexual and gender minorities, sexual and reproductive health issues in sexual and gender minorities, and gender care (hormone therapy, surgical interventions, non-pharmacologic treatments). Approval from the Director of Clinical Education is required to enroll in this course.
