Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Unit

This four-week elective is designed to give medical students experience in all aspects of clinical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation including the diagnostic evaluation, care, and treatment of transplant patients. Emphasis is placed on fundamental concepts of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Students will accompany the inpatient team on the ward rounds for 3 weeks of the rotation with the remaining time spent in the clinic evaluating new patients and seeing established patients. Students also are expected to attend divisional teaching conferences and give informal presentations on topics in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Students should join the inpatient team on Monday at 8:00 a.m. on Duke Central Tower nursing unit 4A for the first day of the rotation. For more information, contact Dr. Bauchat at [email protected].
