Catalog description
Occupations in the NICU elective will combine classroom time, NICU exposure labs as well as self-study. You will learn about theories and practices that form the foundation of occupational therapy's role in the NICU. The course will provide a deeper focus in the occupations of infants born prematurely including sleep, feeding, sensory, and state. You will also incorporate occupations of the parents as caregivers including handling, bonding, and interactions. You will learn the importance of family centered care, trauma informed care, and maternal mental health.
