This course introduces students to the challenges and solutions associated with privacy processes and infrastructure requirements related to health information systems. Policy, legal and technological issues that provide for the secure and confidential collection and exchange of health information are explored, along with codes of ethics, risk assessment processes, industry standards, security policies and procedures, HIPAA regulations, and hardware and software concerns.
