Catalog description

This course is an in-depth analysis of health care organizations as complex adaptive systems. The continuous change and unpredictability of complex systems, such as health care delivery systems, the importance of relationships, and the role of self-organization, emergence and co-evaluation will be explored. Implications for management will be explored including sense making, learning, improvisations, thinking about the future, and designing as substitutes for traditional activities of command, control, prediction and planning when managing complex health care systems.
