This lecture focuses on the visual culture of the Islamic world from its origins in pre-Islamic Arabia to the Mongol Invasions in the thirteenth century. The course introduces the main themes, events, elements, and regions in the history of Islamic art and architecture through a close exploration of the social, religious, political, and intellectual forces that shaped its development.
