Catalog description

In this seminar we will read key works in psychoanalytic theory by its inventor, Sigmund Freud such as Three Essays on a Theory of Sexuality, Interpretation of Dreams, Dora: An Analysis of a Case of Hysteria, and The Ego and the Id. We'll also read the work of important psychoanalytic theorists, commentators, and historians that include Adam Phillips, Eli Zaretsky, Elisabeth Roudinesco, and Alenka Zupancicc. We will explore psychoanalytic theory by focusing on specific topics such as hysteria, perversion, sexuality, repression, the unconscious, and the id/ego/superego.
