Duke University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
How to change education? Education presents some of the most intractable social problems and policy challenges. This course will explore both bottom-up social dynamics and top-down public policies in education, with an eye out for how they interact with each other. An emphasis will be placed on K-12 education. In this course, we will read major theoretical works and recent empirical research on education, and students will design their own projects related to education. Substantive topics will focus on the social contexts and policy challenges of education, such as school access, parenting, and the roles of technology and private capital. 002084
