This course explores the process of family transformation in contemporary East Asia and the U.S. from a comparative perspective. It introduces different concepts, theories, and frameworks to explain the slow but noticeable family changes in East Asian societies and some distinct characteristics in the US. It will draw literature from sociology, demography, anthropology, and economics to study love, passion, marriage, cohabitation, mate selection, same-sex couples, and divorce across social contexts. 001441
