From the framing of the Constitution to the present day, the US has had unique political institutions and political culture, which have long arrested the minds of political theorists, philosophers, writers and academics. Drawing on multiple disciplines, such as sociology, history, philosophy, and literature, this course will explore America's democratic political structures as well as the various institutions that live alongside them. Students will examine the US Constitution and political system. They will look at the relation of the US political system to American culture, to race, to education, to capitalism, and to empire. 001369
