This course engages in a series of case studies to evaluate the requirements of political rhetoric, especially during times of crisis. Examples are drawn from ancient Greek and Roman history, the American founding, and the U.S. Civil War. Students will be able to identify how political leaders in various contexts use common logical and rhetorical constructions to negotiate political uncertainty and danger. 001551
