Contemporary Political Ideologies

Catalog description

The goal of this course is to understand the fundamental alternative political ideologies or theories that have shaped our world and to consider which political theories may shape our world in the future. To accomplish this goal we will 1) Investigate the theories at the foundation of liberal democracy, capitalism, Marxism, fascism, and anti-liberal Islam; 2) Consider how each of these theories addresses such fundamental human questions as: What is the best form of government? What is the nature of human beings? 3) Study through close textual analysis the principal arguments both for and against each of these theories. 001469
