Electronic Sound: Sampling and Synthesis

Catalog description
The course offers a broad introduction to computer hardware and software currently used for digital sound production. Students will explore fundamentals of digital audio, synthesis, sequencing, signal processing, and other techniques of sound creation and manipulation. There will be also an exploration of aesthetic ideas made possible by the electronic medium as well as listening of seminal works of electronic music, aimed to acquire a historic perspective of the development of the field and an understanding of acoustics as applied to electronic sound. Students will apply the knowledge gained during the course by producing short sound design and composition projects. 002168
