INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSITION

Participants in this course will be introduced to the rewarding and fun activity of music composition. The course will explore expressive possibilities of some of the more relevant instruments used today, such as violin, flute, piano, and others. The unique expressive characteristics of each instrument will serve as inspiration for short pieces the students write. Experts will visit class weekly to present the instruments and perform the short compositions. The course also aims to expand the scope of the participants' interest in music through a series of in-class listening and discussions. Prior ability to read music is preferred but not necessary. Music writing will still be possible, using alternative forms of notation; fluency in fundamental musicianship will be gained during the first weeks of the course. 002004
