Introduction to Dance and Choreography

Catalog description
This is a foundational course that provides students with an overview of the history, styles, and techniques of dance and choreography. The course is designed for students with little or no dance experience, and is ideal for those who are interested in exploring the art form from both a cultural and technical perspective. Through a combination of lecture, demonstration, and movement exploration, students will learn about the various styles of dance including contemporary, ballet, hip-hop, and jazz. Additionally, students will be introduced to the basics of choreography and have the opportunity to create their own short dance pieces. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the art of dance and will have developed basic movement and choreographic skills. 002215
