Catalog description

This course will cover topics including normed spaces, functionals, operators, and major theorems (Banach-Alaoglu theorem, uniform boundedness theorem, open mapping theorem, Hahn-Banach theorem, spectral theory for compact operator) in functional analysis as well as their applications. It will concentrate on the topological and infinite dimensional structure of function spaces, with examples in Fourier analysis, as an extension of linear algebra, and in applications in mathematical analysis. Prerequisites: MATH 202 and MATH 308. MATH 409 Topology and MATH 450 Measure Theory and Integration are also recommended. 002001
