Catalog description

This course introduces life cycle assessment (LCA) and its applications. Students will learn how to perform LCA. LCA is a systematic and standardized assessment method for quantifying potential environmental impacts of products, processes, and services. It also has been widely applied to understand environmental sustainability of different engineered systems (e.g., energy, water, food, buildings, waste management, transport). The systems thinking involved in LCA aims to avoid unintended burden shifting from one environmental impact to another, or from one part of the system to another. LCA related concepts such as carbon accounting and water footprint analysis will also be covered. 002014
