Biogeochemistry is the study of how chemical elements flow through living systems and their physical environments. This course will investigate the factors that influence the cycling of those elements that are essential to life as well as the liberation, transport and exposure pathways of toxic trace elements. Concepts of nutrient limitation, element stoichiometry, primary productivity and carbon sequestration will be covered in depth, and will be applied to the study of human impacts on the global biogeochemical cycles of water, carbon, nutrients and trace metals. 001421
