Catalog description

Surveys the modern history of Korea through the prisms of music, investigating how the development of modern music in Korea, including the establishment and evolution of musical institutions and the changes in musical styles of Korean composers, is tied to the notion of national identity. Class materials are drawn from media and academic publications in Korean and written assignments guide students to develop skills in academic written communication. This class is designed for advanced students who have completed a fourth-year course in Korean or international students schooled in Korea. Students with requisite background should contact instructor for a permission number.
