Facilitating Authentic Connections Across Differences

Catalog description

In this course, participants will learn and practice principles of active listening, empathic validation, and bridging across difference. Students will participate in four hours of in-person (synchronous) training to become peer support facilitators and complete the Constructive Dialogue Institute's 'Perspectives in Academic Medicine' course, consisting of six asynchronous modules and three synchronous Zoom-based Peer-to-Peer facilitated conversations. Students will be required to co-facilitate at least six peer support groups offered to other students in SOM programs, attend monthly meetings for supervision, brainstorming and feedback, and complete reflection assignments designed to facilitate recognition of opportunities to authentically connect across difference.
