Catalog description

INTERDIS 305C is a 3-credit course. Students must begin clinic in the first term of their official Scholarly Experience and enroll in one more consecutive term. Students should enroll in the course during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. A grade of Credit or No Credit will be entered for each term, but the numerical credit/units will be awarded in the last term(summer). Credit: 3.0. Nancy Weigle, MD All students are required to complete a clinical experience during their third year to allow students to maintain their clinical skills and engage in career exploration during their third year. The clinical experience is 30 half-days in up to three settings of their choice. Study away, dual degree, and students with scholarships that preclude clinical experiences are exempt from the course and must complete 3 credits of an approved ambulatory experience during the fourth year. Note: If the approved ambulatory course is approved for four credits, it must be taken for four credits. This experience must be completed within DUHS or at the Durham VA. Because this is a credit-bearing elective and a required MS3 course, all students who are not exempt as below should be allowed by their research mentor to enroll. Students enrolled in a dual degree (including MSTP), study away students, and students who have certain scholarships (e.g., HHMI) that preclude clinical activities are exempt from this course and will need to complete 3 credits of an ambulatory clinical rotation as part of their required 28 credits as a MS4. A list of approved courses will be provided in the SoM Bulletin. Students who are not exempt from the requirement and choose not to complete it will be required to complete 3 additional credits in the MS4 year (total 31 credits) as they have delayed this requirement to the fourth year. These three additional credits must be an ambulatory clinical rotation.…
