Outpatient Mental Health Selective

Catalog description

The Psychosocial Treatment Clinic (PTC) at the Duke Child and Family Study Center serves children, adolescents and families utilizing evidence- based practice. This selective includes learning about empirically supported treatments for children and adolescents primarily with anxiety and mood disorders, yet many patients have significant co-occurring medical conditions. Students will work closely with Child Psychiatry Fellows and include clinical observation, hands-on patient care administering behavioral health rating scales, and interactive group supervision sessions. By the end of the course, students will develop skills to successfully conduct patient interviews, perform oral presentations, critically review medical literature and assist with clinical administration.
