Basic Science Selective

Catalog description

The goal of this graduate level course selective is to build on the understanding of gene expression and inheritance patterns in HLTSCHI502. Students will related core concepts to experimental analysis, learning how and why common laboratory techniques are used to collect data. Students will analyze salient primary literature. Students will improve their scientific reading comprehension, comfort with biotechnology terms, apply analytic reasoning, and enhance their written and oral presentation skills. Students will generalize their learning beyond the classroom to understand the process of scientific inquiry and experimental deign and explore career paths in biomedical research. Assessments include weekly quizzes, peer reviews, and oral presentations. Course Director Dr. Jackson Sparks. Prerequisite: HLTHSCI501, HLTHSCI502, and concurrent enrollment in HLTSHCI503.
