Ultrasound has been used in medical education since the mid-1990s, initially focusing on anatomy and more recently to enhance training in physical diagnosis. This selective course aims to educate students in the basic principles (including physics) and core applications of bedside ultrasound. Students gain a thorough understanding of the sonographic anatomy and imaging technique of various anatomic regions through self-directed computer-based didactic sessions. Using the handheld SonoSim® Probe, students practice the psychomotor skills necessary to image these anatomic regions and acquire experience scanning pathologic states. Samuel Francis, MD.
