Devil's Advocate: Exploring Pluralism, Free Inquiry, and Belonging

Can Duke be a campus where meaningful dialogue across differences and mutual respect thrive? Is it possible to be both welcoming to all and open to all questions? Should there be limits on free inquiry, or on the lengths we go to foster belonging? In this course, we'll investigate these questions and partner with professional schools to develop practical projects to advance pluralism, free inquiry, and belonging (PFB) across Duke and beyond. Students will gain skills that are highly regarded for leadership in professional life. In doing so, we'll become Devil's Advocates: colleagues who can think and work effectively across differences, make space for unpopular views, and entertain new ideas with curiosity and humility.
