This course is designed to build on the foundation laid in PIONEER Discovery Thread and in the Duke Preclinical Curriculum. This course addresses the need for physician trainees to have improved knowledge of human milk feeding and ability to support lactating parents. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, breastfeeding techniques, common complications and their management, the relationship between financial and sociocultural factors and breastfeeding initiation and continuation, and available support resources for patients. There will be dedicated time to work directly with faculty, fellows, lactation consultants, community organizations, and patients. Credit 2. Enrollment max 1.
