Catalog description

Health education, immunizations, and medications pertinent to the traveler compose a distinct area of medical knowledge that has not been otherwise addressed in the curriculum. The medical student taking this course will review the major infectious illnesses of concern for each travel area. They will be responsible for the medical knowledge base and patient education needs about the mode of transmission and typical presentation of these illnesses, available behavioral intervention prevention methods, available vaccine prevention, options of chemical prophylaxis, and treatment if prevention is not successful. Students cannot take 1-week selective and 4- week elective. Permission of the instructor is required.
