Ethics in Bioengineering (GE)

Catalog description

This course will introduce basic principles in biomedical ethics, including ethical theories and frameworks for decision-making in engineering disciplines, with a focus on BME. Students will analyze multiple perspectives in ethics in classical and contemporary issues surrounding bioethics and their application in research, medicine, and business through reading and videos. We will discuss ethical practices in BME through five contemporary case studies that span across disciplines—Genome engineering technologies, brain-machine interfaces and neural enhancement, bias in health care and applications of artificial intelligence in medicine, business/research.
