Insects, the most diverse and abundant group of animals on Earth, play essential and often surprising roles in ecosystems and human society. This introductory course delves into the intriguing biology of insects, covering their astonishing diversity, unique morphologies, developmental processes, physiology, ecology, and evolutionary history. We will examine their complex interactions with humans, from their beneficial roles and ecosystem services to their impacts as pests and disease vectors. This class does not have a laboratory component. Recommended prerequisite: Biology 20, 21, 202L, 203L, 207, or equivalent.
