Catalog description

Biology 221 is a small lecture course that emphasizes student participation and active engagement, relying on a textbook supplemented with primary literature and active learning exercises. Topics covered include fundamental concepts in developmental biology, induction, specification, differentiation, patterning, morphogenesis, reprogramming, stem cells, regeneration, plasticity, and epigenetics. Invertebrate and vertebrate (mammalian) development will be covered. Classic and modern experimental methods will also be covered.
