Catalog description

This course will cover the historical, ecclesial, and political dimensions of Black Church conferences and conventions. It will locate them within the institutional development of autonomous Black denominations and probe the significance of their rise in the late 20th century. Students will reflect on the theological and practical distinctions of them and try to understand their popularity as supplements to denominational culture.
