Catalog description

This course introduces the theory and practice of the fundamentals of ceramic art. Students will develop critical thinking and visual literacy while engaging with the core elements and principles of design through clay and other materials to lay a strong conceptual and technical foundation in ceramics. Students will gain knowledge of visual concepts and vocabulary, explore formal elements and principles of ceramic design, analyze designs through class critiques to understand what makes ceramic works visually compelling and functional successful. Hands-on assignments will inspire students, and challenge them to explore a variety of textures, glazes, and the practice of design in clay building through hand building methods and wheel throwing. No previous experience required.
