Catalog description

This course is devoted to the study of bio-psychosocial factors affecting the health and development of women across the reproductive lifespan, their newborns, and their emerging or expanding families; as well as the interpersonal and relational role of the professional nurse in identifying and meeting the health care needs of this focused population. Learners will apply and synthesize knowledge from prior coursework in the basic sciences and humanities to develop and inform their nursing care practices in maternity, neonatal, and women's health care environments - 2 theory hours. Successful completion of both the theory and clinical components of the course with a letter grade of 'C+' (2.3) or higher is necessary to pass the course. Prerequisites: Successful completion of the previous semester's Nursing course work with a 'C+' (2.3) or higher and successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in the Examined Life CORE requirement with a grade of 'C' (2.0) or higher, eligible for junior 2 level standing in the Nursing program. This course has an additional $130 Fee to cover Kaplan testing expenses. Corequisite: NURL 3100 - clinical.
