Psychopathology

Catalog description

This course covers the principles of psychopathology and the diagnostic processes used in a culturally and socially diverse society by providing students with an integrated course of study that trains students in the diagnosis, assessment, prognosis, and treatment of mental disorders. Topics include differential diagnosis and the use of current diagnostic tools such as the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual; the impact of cooccurring substance use disorders or medical psychological disorders; established diagnostic criteria for mental or emotional disorders; and behavioral and psychosocial models of change. Students examine the development of treatment modalities and placement criteria within the continuum of care. Prerequisite: An undergraduate-level course in Abnormal Psychology from an accredited institution.
