- Statistical Modeling in Sports

Catalog description

In this course, students will use statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to evaluate and predict player performance, team performance, economic performance, and health performance in sports. Students will use these findings to determine desired strategies and outcomes for team performance and player evaluation. In performing this analysis, students will carefully consider the ways that confounding bias, overfitting, variable specification, and interpretability arise in sports problems. Through the application of statistical modeling methods, students will practice communicating results to stakeholders so that they can make the best decisions for the players, teams, and organizations.
